Calico Critters Ellwood Elephants
I just bought the Calico Critters Ellwood Elephants yesterday. I didn't think I would ever buy the Elephants, but when I saw them in the store yesterday, they really did look so adorable in person and I couldn't resist. BUT...when I got them home, I was pretty dissapointed. Their joints were extreamly loose and the fur around their joints seemed to be scruffed, which was really noticeable. I like the Calico Critters, but I've noticed that their quality is not as good as the JP & UK Sylvanians. After this, I don't think I'll be buying Calico Critters anymore. looks like I'll only be shipping them in from outside of the US.

Re: Calico Critters Ellwood Elephants
I wonder if you just got a bad set, it does happen sometimes. The CC set that I bought did not have any joint issues. The quality is just fine.
I'm not a huge fan of the elephants either, I think their heads are too big for their bodies. It looks weird.
But, if you are a parent looking for a family to buy your child to play with, the elephants are a great choice. I think they have great appeal for kids.

Re: Calico Critters Ellwood Elephants
I've gotten some bad figures at times, and not just SF or CC. It just happens, expecially when items are mass produced. Try CC again, Bugzy, not everything will be bad!

Re: Calico Critters Ellwood Elephants
Maybe you could try to return the figures to the shop and show the bad quality of them and get a new set?

Re: Calico Critters Ellwood Elephants
Toukkero is right, but I would contact Int. Play. Most companies have product or equivilant items set aside for complaints, damages, missing pieces, etc. that customers bring to their attention.
Part of my job wen I worked at Babies R Us was to call each manufacturer to order parts for items that were missing them in the store. I've never had a problem with that end, so I don't see why a customer would either (provided that said customer does not act mean or rude - not you! LOL).
I also used to get Dungeons & Dragons miniatures for our games. Sometimes the figure would have the wrong bio card, but the company had a form set up on their website so that you could ship back the odd pieces and they would send you the correct set! They didn't charge shipping, both sides paid to send it to the other. So that might be a route the company would take.
You MIGHT be able to work with the store that you bough it form, but being on the customer service side of retail for about 8 years, I would advise against this. Not because the store might not work with you, but because sometimes a store CANNOT do anything for a customer! A place of business and the manufacturer are leaps away from each other in most cases. As a result, each company will have different proccedures when dealing with returns and issues. On many boxes (nearly all!) there is contact information and on a lot of boxes and instructions (particularly in the US), there is a big mark that tells the consumer to "STOP!" and contact the manufacturer rather than the retail store for issues.
Oops. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ramble. LOL
Still, it's a good idea to let a company know that their product is not meeting consumer standards. They might not even know it's an issue!

Re: Calico Critters Ellwood Elephants
Hmm. I actually contacted Flair about the stickers that I ruined about ordering replacement ones and they sent me back an e-mail telling me to return the item to the store that I purchased it from, which I didn't because I ruined the stickers so I found it pretty odd that they would tell me what they did.

Wow, Eric, that is the FIRST time I've ever heard of that! lol.
Is Flair based in the UK? Maybe it was too much for them to replace it in the states? Hmmm....

Re: Calico Critters Ellwood Elephants
Strange... I just bought my son the CC Beagle family-I was just happy the joints weren't tight and creaky! I did notice that on one of the figures- after moving the joint around a bit, some of the flocking 'flaked' off, but other than that they seem fine. I will have to buy a few more families and do some comparisons, but so far in my experience it has had little to do w/ the figures being SF or CC. I bought the SF Hedgehogs and one of those figures had the same 'flock flake' on one arm.
