Let's Clean! Set (CC2575)
This was a set that I was looking quite forward to getting for a long time. To my knowledge it is not available in the UK Flair line as one large set, but the individual pieces from this set have been sold in the UK as several smaller sets. Please, correct me if I need to be!
The set is nice, but there are a few oddities about it. The small accessories are good. I have no complaints about the pretty standard spray bottles, detergent box, dust pan, and items like that. They will dress up a house nicely if you need them to.
The broom though looks a little small. I'm sure that it will look decent in most critters' hands, but it woud look rather wimpy in the hands of a Timbertop bear.
The ironing board is a bit low, I think too. Again, it is to the scale of the smaller critters, but a larger critter would look a little out of place at that ironing board. I think it and the broom could have been a touch taller without being too tall for the smaller critters.
The vacuum and it's two attachments are pretty awesome and will add great staging and play to a doll's house. I love the trash can. How fun will it be to remind our daughter to make sure her critters put their garbage out Thursday night so the garbage men can get it Friday morning. I'm a sucker for Calico Critters and Sylvanian Families wicker baskets, so the laundry basket is great. The drying rack for clothing is a nice detail. The set includes everything to teach a child about cleaning through play. Very well done.
But the dust cloths seem to be the same thing as the baby jackets that I have from other sets. I guess I've kept old clothing to use as dust rags, but I just thought that was a bit weird for Calico Critters.
And, I don't know. Maybe I'm to young or not worldly enough, but I've never seen a washing machine where the lid completely comes off. The part of the machine on the right has a lid that is hinged in the back. It lifts up and you set it back down. The left hand side of the washing machine has a lid that is not attached to the machine. It completes lifts off. I would have liked to see a hinge in the back. Maybe this makes it easier to put clothing inside? Maybe this is the way washing machines are made in other parts of the world? I don't know; I find it weird.
My complaints don't ruin this set though. It's too much of a valuable teaching tool for a dolls house to be missed. It makes the dolls house seem more realistic and adds a new avenue of play options. I really like it for these reasons.
(It would have been nice to have some kind of closest included that could have stored some of the cleaning stuff, but I do think I'm asking for a bit much there.)

Re: Let's Clean! Set (CC2575)
Nice! I was hoping a review for this set (or actually part of it). I think the lid of the washing machine is weird too. But the origins of this set are propably in Japan so what do we know?
And I thought the baby jackets were supposed to be either loundry or cover jacket for babies when they are cleaning What makes you think they are dust cloths?
The extra pieces for the hoover are compleately useless I think. I never use any attachment pieces in my real hoover and most definetly not in a toy hoover either. :P
I have keep eye on the japanese washingmacine-set for a some time now:
And I will buy it when I have more money. I am interested to hear if the japanese set has a real wicker basket? It looks like real in the picture. I like more the yellow yellow colour of the washing machine too. I am still missing room for this set though...

Re: Let's Clean! Set (CC2575)
The reason I'm calling the baby jackets "dust cloths" is because the bottom of Calico Critters packaging lists the names of the items included in the set. After I matched all of the items up with names, the real-life jackets were left to match up with the dust cloths mentioned on the packaging.
This could be a mistake by the people at International Playthings. Maybe Epoch intended them to be baby laundry, but the person in charge of labeling the items for the packaging at International Playthings thought they looked more like dust cloths?
That real wicker basket is wacky! I wonder why they decided to go in that direction. I really like the real cloth liner in the basket; that's a nice touch.

Re: Let's Clean! Set (CC2575)
Hi, folks! Just wanted to give my 5 cents on some of the info from this set from an Asian perspective.
Ironing boards in Japan are traditionally low. They iron while kneeling or sitting. There is no lack of the more modern ironing boards in the market, however, but almost all Japanese households I've seen have one or two of these low boards.
Ditto with the broom, which has long and short-handled versions. The short ones are paired with floor dustpans so one can sweep while kneeling or squatting.
Twin tub washing machines in Asia are almost all like this one. The tub on the right has a removable top lid so you can put in large loads of clothes with ease. The spin dryer (not heat dryer) on the left has a hinged cover because the hinge mechanism serves as a default on-and-off switch for the dryer. If you lift the cover, the dryer automatically stops.

Re: Let's Clean! Set (CC2575)
Thank you Okasanaeko for revealing us the Japanese cleaning mysteries! That sounds so Japanese. Small/low cleaning equipments take less space too to storage. Now as I think about it I would really prefer ironing clothes while sitting!

Re: Let's Clean! Set (CC2575)
Thanks, Pinky. Being a teacher, I love when my toys become a world cultures lesson! I'll probably take this set to school with me now and share with the kids what you told me (and then one will raise his hand and say "Mr. K, this is English class why are you telling us this?").
