Rockie's Sylvanian Mania in Japan (Part One)

Hi all, as promised, I'll be reviewing the places and Sylvanian sights, I seen in Japan in this series of posts. For today, I'll be reviewing my Sylvanian Hunt in Tokyo.

In this city of 12 million, it is hardly difficult to find Sylvanians. Sylvanian Families can be found at almost every major department store. And so I started my hunt by hitting one of Japan's biggest department store (or departo as the Japanese call em) chains, Isetan.

Now, if you expecting a large array of Sylvanian items, think again. Most department stores only carry the mainstream current Japanese range and no UK/US items.

However, one shouldn't fret over this minor letdown. Even in these stores, one can find many Japanese items that are rarely found elsewhere in the world such as the New Chocolate Rabbit Kimono pair, JP Red Pandas and those special JP furniture and figures combo sets !

Now, the next stop in our journey, Nakano Broadway. Home to the flagship store of Mandarake, the World's largest manga and anime shop in the world. Mandarake aside, Nakano Broadway is still among the best places to get all sorts of toys, even Sylvanians have their place here.

I have to admit Nakano was pretty much a disapointment for me. There wasn't really many Sylvanians on sale. The range was pretty similar to the range over at Isetan. While in Mandarake, Sylvanians were basically relegated to a mere shelf. And it wasn't really that great either, the items could've been easily obtain elsewhere.

Putting that disapointment behind, we hop on the over next destination, Ogikubo. Ogikubo is a mere three stops from Nakano via the JR Chuo line. In Ogikubo, I visited Lumine, another department store. I got a tip from a Japanese collector that there was a toy store that sold Sylvanians. And I have to admit the tip really paid off! I bought the Janurary & September Diary Babies along with the Chocolate Kimono Set and Acorn Mice Brother.

Thats all, for part one. In my next post on this topic, I'll post the pictures.
