You're right. There was a kind of SF 'boom' in around 2005 (which coincided with the time when this forum was most popular), but then things started to decline. I actually wonder whether Epoch's continuous releasing of endless 'special figures' might have contributed to many people losing interest — I certainly found that I was unable to keep up with it all. I wouldn't like to say that I've given up collecting, but to be honest, I've essentially stopped for the foreseeable future. I live in Scotland now, but my collection is still at my parents' house in central England, mainly because I don't really have space for it here. It's now become kind of difficult for me to add to my collection — partly because I don't actually know what I have and don't have, and partly because the sorts of figures I'd be looking to get are not so readily available like they were a few years ago. To be honest though, I don't think I should just leave them at my parents' house forever, but I really have no idea what I should do with them just now. They'll probably want them removed eventually anyway. Equally, I'd like to think that I'd relaunch my website eventually, but in truth, I know that that's not realistically going to happen. By the way, Wendy — how did your book go?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Benjaminkje)Thu, 29 Nov 2007 03:39:52 +0000 Re: Just to say hello again...https://bsfforum.runboard.com/p1335,from=rss#post1335https://bsfforum.runboard.com/p1335,from=rss#post1335Hey Benjamin! Nice of you to drop by! The SFCC board isn't as popular as it was, but its getting better now that I've got it featured on my site. With luck we'll get some more people to link it to their website and it will be as popular as it was before. The state of Sylvanian Collecting hasn't changed much, its about the same popularity as a year ago. I think its continuing to drop off slowly in the UK (but there are still lots of them!), but more and more collectors are discovering the critters in the US and Canada. So, although we've lost some of the regulars on the board (and its not that they are just ignoring the new board, they have just stopped collecting in general) but new people are replacing them. And so it goes. Hope things are going well for you! By the way, I feel I should apologise for the rather disorganised way in which I handled the closure of my website, which probably contributed to the loss of members more than anything else. I suppose two other significant old members who aren't here would be Sarah and Silver, but to be honest, they (like me) hadn't been around much during the time just before my website closed, even though they were moderators. I have Sarah as a friend on Facebook, but I've literally spoken to her like twice since March. I've essentially lost contact with Silver, but I think we know that she had a baby about a year ago. I still speak to Peagles on a regular basis though.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Benjaminkje)Wed, 28 Nov 2007 18:01:23 +0000 Re: Just to say hello again...https://bsfforum.runboard.com/p1333,from=rss#post1333https://bsfforum.runboard.com/p1333,from=rss#post1333*applauds* Good to have you with us. ^_^ I'm proud to say we've got most of the old forumgoers here, with just a handful of absentees...Nell Dixon and SeraphMichael spring to mind; there are probably more, but I can't remember. >_>nondisclosed_email@example.com (TheRyusui)Wed, 28 Nov 2007 16:55:45 +0000 Just to say hello again...https://bsfforum.runboard.com/p1332,from=rss#post1332https://bsfforum.runboard.com/p1332,from=rss#post1332Hey folks, I just thought I'd come by and see how you're all getting on — I certainly miss you all! It does seem that this community has been reinvigorated again, which is great. I really appreciate it that Ryusui has been willing to continue this forum. (For those of you who don't know me, I used to own a website called The Sylvanian Families & Calico Critters Ezine which was found at www.sylvanian-families.co.uk — it lasted for about five years and had a forum like this, but I chose not to renew my webhosting earlier this year and Ryusui set this up as a replacement forum). Incidentally, I saw that someone here said something about how it would've been nice if I'd given my website to someone else to carry on, and I totally agree. I actually did try to do this (though admittedly not very hard) just before it closed, but no-one volunteered (understandably, to be honest). However, this option is still very much open if anyone's now interested. Equally, if anyone wants to use any content from my old website for their own website, then they'd be more than welcome. I could send you the whole website and then you'd be able to sort through it all and use whatever you wanted. So anyway, how is SF/CC collecting in general going just now? I've been out of it for a while. Last time I was genuinely involved, prospects didn't look good and most people seemed rather pessimistic. Do things seem to be improving, or not? And just in case anyone's interested, I actually now live in Scotland. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Benjaminkje)Wed, 28 Nov 2007 15:00:07 +0000
