Forum Rules - help needed to decide....

Haven't written the sticky for this yet.

Wanted to consult members about what is important. Could you please add your ideas. Please try to just post all your ideas onto one post. I do welcome discussion on this but if you could maybe do a post with 5 key ideas on. For example, my 5 would be.

1. New members need to do an introductory post before posting in main forums.
2. Some guidance about people registering just to get a price check, then clearing off.
3. A sentence explaining about text speak and why it is probably unfair to use this on the boards.
4. A reminder about necroposting/reposting/mass posting instead of editing. Responses written should be of quality and add to whatever discussion is occurring.
5. A post of abbreviations unique to Sylvanian Families ( I will need help to identify which things are important)

A few other ideas I had - if you need a topic , particularly a sales or trade topic deleting (because everything has sold) could you go into your topic and type please delete into the title so then mods know whether to delete it.

I think we are probably going to be looking for new moderators as we are aware that not many of the older ones log in often enough. I think it has just left me and Wendy. Obviously not everybody can be a moderator but if you might be interested in helping please PM me and we will be looking shortly.

With regards to questionable traders/sellers I'm going to see if I can make a list at the start of the topics so people don't have to trawl through to see who may need avoiding. I would like to remind people that obviously these reviews are sometimes a matter of opinion (i.e someone can have a bad experience and someone can have a good experience with the same seller)

So post away below please. The other forum I belong to has been useful in offering me a little guidance in how to put together a few rules.

I agree, Hayley, the most important is the first idea. It is good to get to know each other before reading new posts, it could help us not to misunderstand, for example where are people from, how we can help etc.

Another point, the fifth: I think abbreviations unique to Sylvanian Families are all right if there were a post comprising the explanations but it is just my opinion.

Your idea to type "delete" or other important notice into the title is also good!

Thanks a lot, Hayley! emoticon

My ideas:
[sign in to see URL] advertising of non-sylvanian things
[sign in to see URL] you are a child please say so in the introduction forums
[sign in to see URL] you ban people for things?
[sign in to see URL] spam
[sign in to see URL] age-approite content
[sign in to see URL] some way stop those, Post-once-never-come-back-again types?

Hayley, I think your rules are spot on!
I would also like to add a suggestion that you perhaps add a "How To" section - I see a lot of people asking the same questions regarding how the forum works.

It would be great to have a section for new members on how to add links to your post, insert images and even check the date when the last post was made in a topic. Perhaps also add how to quote another member and how to add a banner as your signiture.

Also a reminder on how to use the search feature would be great, I am still struggling with it and I KNOW that some of the things I want to know have been answered in the past, but can't find them. emoticon

A lot of the new members, might be signing up for a forum for the first time ever - I have been watching my mom (Avid lurker that she is) and she struggles with these things, because she is not used to message forums.

I also second Bogi in Sylvanian abbreviation speak being allowed, when we have the list of abbreviations (MIB / SF / EB / CC / and so forth) up.

A lot of those kind of questions have been answered in the feedback [sign in to see URL] about a DIY section as well?

I have now added the rules to Announcements - for existing members and Introductions - so new members can see them when they do their first post.

Could still do with a couple more moderators. Could do with somebody in Europe and somebody in the US but would consider any world location.

Oh and maybe a marketplace for non-sylvanian items? Or maybe just moving the marketplace to Other Stuff?
