Weird things to do to your Sylvanians
What is the weirdest thing you have done to your figures?
I think I have just completed my weirdest project yet: I have sown shut the back of all the babies' romper suits (the "standard" ones that mainly come in blue and pink). I realised I have 32 standing babies in those suits, plus two Japanese style ones, the three piggies, the three JP charcoal cats, six non-jointed babies in Cathy's clothes a few standing babies in gowns and Bucky in his blue suit (none of these needed needlework).
The reason I did it? Because many of them were showing their bum. And also I thought maybe the suits will fit better this way, and they really do!
It was quite easy to do, only two stitches each, and they can easily be undone with some sharp scissors again if I want to change their clothes.
Now I'm keen to see if anyone else has ever done that (or something similarly strange) or if I'm just weird.

No it's not weird. In fact, I wouldn't mind doing that, too. I don't like seeing open backs on my babies either. It's not "realistic". It's like having open-backed hospital gowns.

Re: Weird things to do to your Sylvanians
If underwear for Sylvanians were available, I guess you would get those too xD
I don't know if this is weirdest, but yesterday I had some loose heads and headless bodies on my desk. I tried to figure out how to swap tails, but I couldn't figure out a way to do it...

I don't know if it's weird or not, but I did give Maria Buckley a rifle.

Re: Weird things to do to your Sylvanians
I have definitely stitched the backs of those baby rompers. The straps always fall down and look so much better when you stitch it.
I'm sure you're gonna get some strange replies on this topic as I can see we already have a few. I would love to see one of your critters with body parts from all different animals Suvenkorento.
And yes Brad it is kinda weird that Maria of all critters with the pretty flower in her hair has a rifle. The Meercats maybe.... or the Chestnut Raccoons.

Actually they were all mice of Forest Families series. Some have better tails than others, and I wanted to swap them. But the hole in their bum is so small. The part of the tail inside the figure turned out to be cone shape, i.e. quite impossible to get out of their bodies. And outside tail is thicker, so I can't push tail inside.
You have added tails LadyLollipop. Any tips?
Sorry for getting sidetracked...

Re: Weird things to do to your Sylvanians
I am pleased we are getting some good weirdness. And nothing too off... I won't link to it, but has anyone here ever seen the, ah, underwear someone makes for Sylvanians? I think the patterns are sold on Etsy...

I've seen those, too but I didn't think it would be worth all that miniature work if you're not even going to see it most of the time

Re: Weird things to do to your Sylvanians
Re-reading this post, it sounds really off.... But here goes!
Suvenkorento, I had to drill a little hole in the backs of the critters with a handheld drill.
That took the longest!!! Then I opened the side of the hole to the bottom slightly with a craft knife.
After this, I added a tiny amount of clear epoxy resin to the hole opening with a toothpick and pushed the new tail into the hole very carefully.
As my pipecleaner went in, it caught the glue and brushed it all into the hole.
I didn't have to secure the tails, because when dry, if I pull on them (and I did test them, swinging the critters around on them, having my 3yr old tugging on them etc...) they have not come loose yet!
For a pony's tail, you need to remove the head, remove the hair (they are stuck in place, so use a craft knife) and make a new tail / main with a hard base - I used the glue gun at the ends of the hairs.
When ready, you just pop the hair in from the outside, push them through with a crochet hook and secure them on the inside with some clear epoxy.
Stay away from Superglue / general craft glue at all cost, it seeps into the flocking and makes a right mess of things.
