More earthquakes in New Zealand

As some of you will already know central New Zealand has been shaking all weekend with hundreds of earthquakes. I know there are some people on this board who aren't too far from this region, and possibly some in the affected regions, and I'd just like to send out best wishes and hope you are all coping alright. Living in Christchurch I know how terrifying the shaking can be, even for the smaller shakes with little or no chance of damage.
My thoughts also go out to all those affected by yesterday's earthquakes in China. The pictures coming out of there are truly heartbreaking.
Kia Kaha - Stay strong everyone!

Oh no! I hope you weren't too badly affected.

There seems to be more earthquakes lately and that is not good. emoticon

Thoughts and prayers to those who aren't too lucky.

Re: More earthquakes in New Zealand

Being in Palmerston North we have been having quite a few minor shakes, but certainly felt the big one on Sunday. My son has just moved to Wellington to go to Victoria Uni and it has taken me months to stop worrying about him just not living at home - now I am worried about him in the quakes. His Hostel had several cracks in stairwells after the quake on Sunday but they have decided it is only plaster damage.
Still worried though and hope things settle down for everyones piece of mind.

There certainly does seem to be alot more "disaster type things" world wide over the last few years (or maybe as I get older I just take abit more notice of the world around me !)

Hi madforSF, your partner's mother in Auckland would have been fine with the recent earthquakes. She may have felt them but there was no damage in Auckland.

Asticat - I'm sorry to hear you have extra cause for concern for your son away at university!! I'm a structural engineer, and the day after the 22nd February Christchurch quakes I got on a plane from Australia and came straight over - I think I had a lot of people worried, not least my mum!! Thankfully Wellington is preparing for the big one, and has been for some time. This was just a small reminder, but probably useful in stopping people from getting complacent. Make sure your son knows what to do if there is a big one, and that he is prepared. At least Wellington isn't TOO far from Palmerston North!
