Sylvanian Musicians

When chatting on the Forest Friends thread Shauna and I discussed a Sylvanian Orchestra. I would love to see pics of others musicians and their instruments. Here are a few pics (I will add more later) to start the ball rolling . . .

I was first inspired by the little, hardback book "Holly Wildwood and the Party Concert". A cute little story featuring lots of the early SF instruments. Seeing them so well displayed by Martika got me started.

Here is my instrument collection as it is at the moment. (I dream of adding the guitar and the cello one day.)

Another inspiration . . . a jigsaw featuring an evening musical soiree in Sylvania . . .

I hope to post "scenes" when I can gather some Sylvanian characters together and take a few photos. Most of my SF's have emigrated to Wanaka to the Toy Museum leaving hardly enough for a band let alone an orchestra! I have enough instruments for 45 SF's!

P.S. After looking at the photos on line I decided to swap my upright piano in the photo (it only has 2 pedals) for a 3 pedal dark brown one in one of my houses and to include the miniature, red topped grand that was included in an early Toy Box set.

I love the double drum and the saxaphone are they the JP ones that come in the boxes with blue velvet? I was trying to find my instruments last night at about 1am. Sneeking round the house as quietly as possible, but due to my ongoing space issues I have only turned up a "paltry pile" compared with yours. I did however ask Cathy (grandmas originals) about potential band uniforms and shes looking out fabrics. Perhaps if I provide uniformed figures you could provide instruments and photographic services. That jigsaw is a good model to start with. I will see what instruments I can dig out as well.

Yep you are right Shauna. The double drum set, the banjo, trombone, trumpet are all from the boxed sets. Teh cello and guitar I am missing were the same. The tuba is an early one that I guess came boxed but I have never seen one in a box. Many I got as extras in furniture or house purchases from England. I even scored a cricket bat in one on those purchases!!! I have seen a painted cricket bat in SF story books but mine is plain and special all the same. I do wish I knew its origins - like what set or figure it came with.

What fun! Looking forward to collaborating with you on "The Band"! Perhaps we should run a competition to name "The Band"!

Well, I don't know if your ambitions run quite to such an endeavor, but the "Sylvanian Symphony Orchestra" is what immediately springs to mind. :3

Sounds good to me . . . and I haven't even heard them play yet! Perhaps we could have a jazz band / rock band / folk band to accompany the orchestra. And of course there has to be a music school for all the babies/children!

Now I want to know what SF instruments people would like to see released. Personally I would like to see a full sized harp similar to the black grand piano. Anyone else for anything else?

We could always compromise and set up some Sylvanians in front of a TV armed with two guitars, a drum set and a microphone. It'll be Guitar Hero: Sylvanian Tour! XD

I like the idea of an orchestra, but we will have to hunt for a cello as you really need one and I will find my violins. As for new SF instruments I like the harp but thik a guitar (perhaps with a camping set) is essential! Also the violins are rather small being childrens instruments so perhaps a more adult sized violin would be good and a big kettle drum. Bagpipes would be way cool too.

I went through ebay last night looking at misc auctions to see if I could see any more instruments and I will get Wendy's trombone.

WOW Shauna! You have a great imagination. Yes we must have bagpipes and lots of them. I can just imagine a pipe band!?! There is celtic blood in my veins and the sound of pipers always brings tears to my eyes. I was privileged to be at the world champs once and hear HUNDREDS of bagpipes playing at once. TOTALLY AWESOME! Rocked me to the core of my soul. Sigh!

I REALLY like the idea of kettle drums. What about tubular bells? That would round out the percussion section. I think we need a french horn for the brass section. And if we are going to get a cello we may as well request they make a double bass. I can just imagine Father Timbertop on the double bass!

I have one trombone. How many trombones does an orchestra need? Maybe a second would be great for the jazz band!

I am addicted to YouTube and watching music videos from the 70's and 80's. Nothing like a bit of Chicago or the Doobie Brothers to enjoy good brass instrument playing.

Get a load of the sax!

And dontcha love the trombone and trumpet . . .

Just to show you don't have to go to a symphony orchestra to appreciate "classical" instruments!

And there is not a brass instrument to be seen but I am completely in love with Michael McDonald and I don't care which of the 10 or more versions of him singing this song I listen to (you can hear him sing the same song from the age of 25 - 55!) I love every one!

emoticon Really showing my age now!!! LOL!
